Apollo Space Program 1969

Apollo Space Program 1969
help ! witht he space race !?

What was in Sputnik 2? (nicknamed?)
What went kaputnik?
How does NASA counter the dogonauts? (Named?)
How is Jackie Kennedy NOT randomly associated with all this?
Who is Yuri Gargarin?
Who was the first American in Space.
What was the Apollo Program? (Hint: Kennedy’s speech)
Which country had the first woman in space?
Which country had the first spacewalk?
The US responds by upping NASA funding from $—million to $—billion.
What happened on July 20, 1969?
Who walked on the moon?
Is that the MTV Flag?!
How many Russians have danced on the moon?

In Sputnik 2 was the first being launched into space – Laika the dog.

America tried to counter Russia’s first Satellite with an Explorer probe – it blew up… we called it “Kaputnik.”

Instead of dogs, we launched monkeys – responding to particular commands while in space.

Jackie Kenney was John. F. Kennedy’s husband during the start of the space race; after we found we were able to launch (and more importantly – recover) humans, he set the finish line of the space race as a manned moon landing.

Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space.

The first American in space was Alan Shepard. The first American to *orbit* the way Gagarin did was John Glenn

The Apollo Program was the final set of rockets & spacecraft to land men on the moon.

Russia had the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova.

Russia had the first spacewalk, Alexei Leonov

From about 750 million to 20 billion, I think….

July 20, 1969, man landed and walked on the moon.

The first mission was Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong.

The MTV flag is actually taken from Apollo 14…

0 Russians have danced on the moon, but Frank Sinatra sang “Fly me to the moon.”

Celebrating 50 Years of Americans in Space Commemorative Patch

$7.95

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF AMERICANS IN SPACE This is a new patch designed by Tim Gagnon. It honors and celebrates America’s achievements in space. In 1961 two countries began what came to be known as the Space Race – the USSR and the USA. Its goal was to showcase to the world the technical prowess of each country. On May 25, 1961 the American President challenged his nation to ?land a man on the Moon and return him safely to Earth.? That goal was met on July 24, 1969. The knowledge gained from that achievement led to learning howto “live and work in space” towards the goal of returning to the Moon to stay and one day explore the surface of Mars. The central elements are representations of our past and current achievements. The US Flag on the surface of the Moon and the International Space Station in orbit above the Earth. The Astronaut Symbol, representing every American who has flown in space connects the two achievements. The emblems of every past manned space program from Project Mercury to the Space Shuttle surround the center paying tribute to the men and women who made those programs possible and a success. The seven star constellation “Aquila.” which means “Eagle” honor the original seven astronauts as well as the final crews of Challenger and Columbia. The three stars together in the upper left honor the crew of Apollo 1.
