Apollo Space Program Missions

Apollo Space Program Missions
Question for the “fake moon landing” conspiracy crowd.?

Let’s say for the moment that I agree that Apollo 11 was faked. Now the question is why?

Your answer? Because we did not have the engineering and technological ability in July 1969.

OK fine, let’s say that. So now I ask this.

If we didn’t have the ability in July 1969 for a manned moon landing, would we have obtained it just barley 9 months later in April 1970?

My answer? No.

So then it comes to this. If Apollo 11 (and 12 for that matter) was fake, then we have to assume that Apollo 13 was fake also.

Why would you “fake” a near catastrophe with Apollo 13? Wouldn’t you want a “fake” mission to be a resounding success?

Apollo 13 caused the moon program to be ended prematurely, and set the whole manned space program back for nearly a decade.

Do you see where the “fake” theory becomes seriously flawed?

“Your” answer to the second question is wrong. Therefore, you have failed to prove that their theory is flawed.
[Their theory is wrong, but what you offer is not a proof of the flaw]

There are conspiracists who argue that only the Apollo 11 mission was faked. The reason (they claim) is that we knew that we were still a few months behind the Soviets and that they were on the verge of getting there first.

If their program director had not died, that would have been possible (except that we did not know, at the time, that he had died).

The Soviets’ original plan was to attempt a landing in early November 1967 (the 50th anniversary of the Soviet Union). Then it was postponed, so that the first circumlunar flight (without a landing) was to take place in November 1967 (that would still have put them a year ahead of our first circumlunar flight — Apollo 8).

Therefore, the argument of the conspiracists is that Apollo 11 was faked so that the Soviets would abandon the race, or, at least, that our population would be convinced that we had won.

They did abandon the race, but that was because the director of the lunar program was dead and their heavy launch rocket kept exploding on the pad (still at the experimental stage).

Meanwhile their other space programs continued with great success (unlike us, they did not combine their programs into one agency like NASA): they went on with the first landings (unmanned) on other planets (Venus and Mars).

Their lunar program continued with unmanned probes (including returns of sample rocks), but they abandoned the manned visit of the Moon.

However, the best proof that Apollo 11 was not faked came from the Soviets themselves. When Neil took “a small step for [a] man”, the Moon was over the Pacific ocean. The TV signal was “visible” to all their radio-telescopes (even our own TV images had to come through a radio-telescope in Australia).

If Neil had been in Hollywood instead of being on the Moon, they would have known right away. The “cover up” would not have lasted one hour, never mind 40 years.

It captures magnificently the remarkable spirit of those involved in the Apollo story.? ?Charles M. Duke Jr., Apollo 16 astronaut and moonwalkerFollowing the fortieth anniversary of Apollo 11, as NASA prepares to return astronauts to the moon, Footprints in the Dust offers a thorough, engrossing, and multifaceted account of the Apollo missions. The flight of Apollo 11 was a triumph of human endeavor, persistence, and technology, one of the greatest achievements in human history. This book begins with the mission that sent Neil Armstrong and Edwin ?Buzz? Aldrin to the moon, then follows American spaceflight through the harrowing rescue of Apollo 13 before moving on to the successful joint Apollo-Soyuz mission in 1975. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with key figures in the space program, the authors convey the human drama and chart the technological marvels that went into the Apollo missions. They also put the accomplishments of American spaceflight into historical context, examining the competitive space race with the Soviet Union, the roles of politics and personality in launching the mission, and the consequences, practical and profound, of this giant leap for mankind.(20090701) Book Details: Hardcover: 520 pages Publisher: University of Nebraska Press (June 1, 2010) Language: English
