Earth Space Science Degree
Earth Space Science Degree

What are the job possibilities with a secondary science education degree?
I am a graduating senior at a university and my official degree will be “Secondary Science Education with and Earth/Space Concentration.” I will be certified to teach in Illinois and can transfer the certification fairly easily. The thing is, over the last year or so I have really come to resent our educational system. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet, but I was wondering if anyone knew of other options for this type of degree. I’m not exactly from money, I’m 20,000 in debt and it’s a little late to switch majors. Any helpful comments would be appreciated.
If I were you, I’d teach with my degree, science teachers are always in great demand, and the fact that the quality of education is not very good these days, you and other motivated people like you can change that cause if everybody said I’m not teaching cause I resent the educational system, the education system will be down the drain in a few years, teaching is a very noble job and you will have your own class and will have full control over it, so even if the education system sucks, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to suck or go with the flow, you can do something to change student’s lives and learning experience….and if you really don’t wanna teach then you can at least teach till you pay your debts off and then look for another job….also if you don’t like the educational system you always have the option of teaching overseas…like England, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and so many other destinations.

Beyond Earth $27.95 Beyond Earth The Future of Humans in SpaceEdited by Bob Krone, Ph.D.Beyond Earth: The Future of Humans in Space provides a foundation for space planners and anyone interested in humankind’s next great adventure – the human migration to space. World-class scholars, scientists, engineers, managers, astronauts, artists, authors, and university professors capture the questions that plague our unique circumstance: Why does space matter to us? What can we use it for? How can we get there efficiently? What will ordinary life be like in space? What will our homes be like on the Moon? On Mars? In orbit? Will we play? Will we love? Will we survive? The primary reasons for humans to go permanently to space are for the betterment of humankind and the avoidance of threats to humans on earth. Evidence to support those conclusions is provided herein. Research findings over the past decade show huge benefits to humans and to earth of exploiting the resources and capabilities uniquely found in space. Some predictions and projections will produce paradigm shifts unimagined in 1957 when Russians and Americans began departing earth. Space Sciences, technology and experience makes the next major breakout from Earth to space not only feasible but commercially profitable. This book is science, not science fiction. In the year 2006 we know that humans will live and work in space. Humans have experienced space for forty-five years. The majority of the forty professionals who authored this book have spent their working lives in the global space community. They have produced a systems approach to the Why and the How the next great space adventure will occur and the challenges to overcome. Managers are already planning for translation of this English version into twelve major languages of the world. In short, the perfect Christmas gift for someone who is an enthusiast for life and travel in outer space. In the 1980s, on assignment, I had the opportunity to visit the John F. Kennedy Space Center and tour the site where rockets and space shuttles were launched. I saw a shuttle up close and that is to say I saw a vehicle that was the size of a small building and marveled that it could be lifted beyond Earth?s gravity to circle the planet. One can only marvel at the courage of the crews that went aloft and the scientific and technological mastery that made it possible. This book is a keeper!” This superbly designed and lavishly illustrated book marks a special moment in history: the final mission of the space shuttle. Noted space and science author Piers Bizony has put together a retrospective that covers the entire space shuttle program. Life Beyond Earth $24.95 Life Beyond Earth The question of whether we are alone in the universe has intrigued humanity for centuries, and journalist Timothy Ferris presents an extensive look at the quandary in this fascinating and beautifully produced program from PBS. Ferris, as an engaging and inquisitive host, begins by discussing the development of life and the theory of evolution, as what we know about life on Earth could indicate whether it’s possible for life to have developed elsewhere. Showing how scientists would expect life to exist elsewhere, Ferris then devotes his attention in a section entitled “Is Anybody Listening” to explain how radio telescopes are being used in hopes of making contact with intelligent beings beyond our own solar system. Throughout this documentary Ferris finds creative ways to make fairly complicated material easily understandable, and his offbeat approach to serious science is always entertaining and often fascinating. Experts such as scientist and bestselling author Stephen Jay Gould appear briefly in interviews to offer their insights, but for the most part the presentation is astoundingly visual. Ferris wisely opts to show something rather than merely talk about it, and the DVD is filled with startling and beautiful special effects as well as gorgeous footage shot both on Earth and in space. This is an excellent documentary that also happens to be a pleasure to watch. –Robert J. McNamara Details: Actors: Paul Butler, France Cordova, Freeman Dyson, Gerald Edelman, Timothy Ferris Writers: Timothy Ferris, Stephen Most Producers: Brian Donegan, Elizabeth Brock, Greg Diefenbach, Jamie Stobie, Linda Feferman Format: Color, NTSC Language: English Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only) Number of discs: 1 Studio: Pbs Paramount DVD Release Date: September 7, 2004 Run Time: 110 minutes |
