Earth Space Science Facts
Earth Space Science Facts

What exactly would happen to Earth if it were flung out of the solar system and into deep space?
This is a hypothetical question that I’m doing research on for a science paper at school. I need as much details as possible… Let’s say that something caused Earth to eject out of the solar system, away from the Sun, away from the Moon, and roamed aimlessly out into deep space. What kind of effects and disasters would we see? How long would we survive and how would we go about surviving at all?
I know the most obvious fact is that the earth will become one huge Antarctica and we will all freeze to death. But what interests me is what leads up to this final point. Earthquakes? Mega tsunamis? Eternal night-time 24/7? How fast would things freeze up and how long before we all die?
I can’t seem to find much info on this particular topic anywhere. All I can find is info about possible rogue planets colliding with Earth.
Within about two weeks the temperature would be so cold that the atmosphere would turn to liquid. All life would die.
Although some life forms would freeze and could conceivably be revived when warmed, the vast amount of time in deep space would mean other forces would destroy them before that would happen (tectonic forces, meteor impacts, proton decay etc.).

Beyond Earth $27.95 Beyond Earth The Future of Humans in SpaceEdited by Bob Krone, Ph.D.Beyond Earth: The Future of Humans in Space provides a foundation for space planners and anyone interested in humankind’s next great adventure – the human migration to space. World-class scholars, scientists, engineers, managers, astronauts, artists, authors, and university professors capture the questions that plague our unique circumstance: Why does space matter to us? What can we use it for? How can we get there efficiently? What will ordinary life be like in space? What will our homes be like on the Moon? On Mars? In orbit? Will we play? Will we love? Will we survive? The primary reasons for humans to go permanently to space are for the betterment of humankind and the avoidance of threats to humans on earth. Evidence to support those conclusions is provided herein. Research findings over the past decade show huge benefits to humans and to earth of exploiting the resources and capabilities uniquely found in space. Some predictions and projections will produce paradigm shifts unimagined in 1957 when Russians and Americans began departing earth. Space Sciences, technology and experience makes the next major breakout from Earth to space not only feasible but commercially profitable. This book is science, not science fiction. In the year 2006 we know that humans will live and work in space. Humans have experienced space for forty-five years. The majority of the forty professionals who authored this book have spent their working lives in the global space community. They have produced a systems approach to the Why and the How the next great space adventure will occur and the challenges to overcome. Managers are already planning for translation of this English version into twelve major languages of the world. Features: Paperback: 296 pages Publisher: Collector’s Guide Publishing Inc (May 1, 2006) Language: English Book Dimensions: 9.9 x 6.8 x 0.9 inches |

Woodmansee, author of Women Astronauts and Women of SpaceAs hoteliers design zero-gravity hotel suites for out-of-this-world unions and with the first honeymoon in space already scheduled, this provocative account reveals the truth about romantic rendezvous in Earth’s orbit and beyond as well as the advantages and difficulties of having sex in space. Questions the space agencies are too embarrassed to discuss ? such as Has anyone “done it” in space? What will happen to the first baby conceived in space? and Have astronauts and cosmonauts practiced “docking maneuvers” while in orbit? ? are thoughtfully answered, while science-fiction myths about interstellar intercourse are dispelled. From chemistry to psychology, this exploration runs the reproductive and sexual gamut, from lust and sexual mechanics to conception, pregnancy, and birth in low-gravity situations. The Space Shuttle: Celebrating Thirty Years of NASA’s First Space Plane [Hardcover] $39.95 The Space Shuttle: Celebrating Thirty Years of NASA’s First Space Plane [Hardcover] Author: Piers Bizony Bookviews by Alan Caruba”…a classic coffee table book, 10.5 x 11.25, 300 pages and filled with 900 color photos. In short, the perfect Christmas gift for someone who is an enthusiast for life and travel in outer space. In the 1980s, on assignment, I had the opportunity to visit the John F. Kennedy Space Center and tour the site where rockets and space shuttles were launched. I saw a shuttle up close and that is to say I saw a vehicle that was the size of a small building and marveled that it could be lifted beyond Earth?s gravity to circle the planet. One can only marvel at the courage of the crews that went aloft and the scientific and technological mastery that made it possible. This book is a keeper!” This superbly designed and lavishly illustrated book marks a special moment in history: the final mission of the space shuttle. Noted space and science author Piers Bizony has put together a retrospective that covers the entire space shuttle program. In addition to covering every space shuttle mission, the book also covers the development and design of the space shuttle, as well as the technical specifications of the vehicle and details of its major assemblies and subassemblies. A full double-gatefold provides a large-scale technical drawing of the space shuttle. Life Beyond Earth $24.95 Life Beyond Earth The question of whether we are alone in the universe has intrigued humanity for centuries, and journalist Timothy Ferris presents an extensive look at the quandary in this fascinating and beautifully produced program from PBS. Ferris, as an engaging and inquisitive host, begins by discussing the development of life and the theory of evolution, as what we know about life on Earth could indicate whether it’s possible for life to have developed elsewhere. Showing how scientists would expect life to exist elsewhere, Ferris then devotes his attention in a section entitled “Is Anybody Listening” to explain how radio telescopes are being used in hopes of making contact with intelligent beings beyond our own solar system. Throughout this documentary Ferris finds creative ways to make fairly complicated material easily understandable, and his offbeat approach to serious science is always entertaining and often fascinating. Experts such as scientist and bestselling author Stephen Jay Gould appear briefly in interviews to offer their insights, but for the most part the presentation is astoundingly visual. Ferris wisely opts to show something rather than merely talk about it, and the DVD is filled with startling and beautiful special effects as well as gorgeous footage shot both on Earth and in space. This is an excellent documentary that also happens to be a pleasure to watch. –Robert J. McNamara Details: Actors: Paul Butler, France Cordova, Freeman Dyson, Gerald Edelman, Timothy Ferris Writers: Timothy Ferris, Stephen Most Producers: Brian Donegan, Elizabeth Brock, Greg Diefenbach, Jamie Stobie, Linda Feferman Format: Color, NTSC Language: English Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only) Number of discs: 1 Studio: Pbs Paramount DVD Release Date: September 7, 2004 Run Time: 110 minutes |
