Future Commercial Space Travel
Aerospace or Aeronautics?

Hi, I’m worrying about career planning and would like some help on this. First off, I know the difference between the two. I know aerospace includes both atmospheric and space, and since I want to focus my career in designing commercial airplanes, which should I choose?
Here is what I would like in my job:
1) traveling (like business trips)- which offer these? I love traveling on jetliners and I love commercial planes in general.
2) higher salary- which offers a higher salary?
3) work condition- which offers a better work condition?
That’s all I really care about in my future career. And if you can give me helpful advice, that would mean a lot to me. Thanks so much!!

Aerospace/Aeronautics is too narrow a field to aim for at this stage of your education. Very few people actually work designing airplanes or spaceships.

Get a solid degree in Engineering, possibly Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Physics first, then, if you’re still interested, and the field looks like it has job openings, get a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering later.

Another possibility is Capitol College’s innovative degree in Astronautical Engineering.

Moon Rush:Improving life On Earth with the Moon’s Resources Moonrush: Improving Life On Earth With The Moon’s Resources is another in the Apogee Books Space Series. If by some magic process humanity was able to go to the stars tomorrow and find habitable worlds we would probably want to design a society based upon modern technology. We can’t do this but we can look at our Earthbound society and think about how to redesign it so that it will work better. It is like a giant game of the SIMS but in the real world. This book examines how the exploration of space, specifically a commercial base on the Moon and Mars would transform our economies on the Earth as surely as the discovery of the New World transformed the old world of Europe. From Platinum Group Metals for fuel cells, manufacturing high tech metals and robots to the building of a fusion reactor, the Moon holds great promise for a high tech manufacturing future. This book takes a look and imagines how a world with such resources could be designed for our future. Mission Operations Lapel Pin

Mission Operations Lapel Pin

$4.5

Mission Operations Lapel Pin The Mission Operations Directorate emblem was developed for the mission control team to recognize their unique contribution to the manned space program. The original emblem was designed by Robert T. McCall in April 1973. In late 1983, the decision was made to retain all of the elements of the original patch and update it to support the Shuttle program. A further revision was made in late 2004, with the artistic help of graphic designer Mike Okuda, to incorporate the International Space Station into the design to recognize the achievements and contributions of the team supporting that program. Honoring the Past, Present, and Future The Mission Operations emblem as depicted in the current version incorporates or retains elements that honor Mission Control’s past achievements, present commitments, and places an eye toward the future. The following summarizes the significant features for each:At the top of the emblem, the Moon and Mars represent the future. It is taken as a given that mankind will one day spread into the heavens, and these elements remind of Mission Control’s intent to lead the way. The wording ÒRES GESTA PER EXCELLENTIAMÒ on the patch were chosen to stress the very positive attitude used by the mission control team to assure crew safety and mission success. “Achieve through Excellence” is the standard for their work. It represents an individual’s commitment to a belief, to craftsmanship, and to perseverance. With the above qualities, a positive approach is created that assures objective accomplishment and the return of the crew. The central part of the emblem symbolizes Mission Control’s present responsibilties. The sigma represents the total mission team. In addition, it represents the individual flight control teams from all programs past, present, and future. Within the teams, it represents all engineering, scientific, and operations disciplines and tasks in support of the spacecraft and aircraft program elements, reminding that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The Shuttle launch represents the dynamic elements of space, the initial escape from our environment, and the thrust to explore the universe. The four stars on the ShuttleÕs plume represent the basic principles of the flight control team identified during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs: Discipline, morale, toughness, and competence. Their place along the ShuttleÕs plume reminds that these are the foundation upon which each mission is flown. The orbiting International Space Station symbolizes that man is now a permanent element in space, conducting research and developing materials leading to the commercial utilization of the space environment. The ISS is shown in its Ôassembly completeÕ configuration to denote NASA’s focus and commitment to achieving this goal. The remaining elements are the Earth, the comet, and the stars. The Earth is our home and will forever be serviced by both manned and unmanned spacecrafts in order to

1/400 Delta II Rocket w/Launch pad

$44.95

1/400 Delta II Rocket w/Launch pad New from Dragon Models – April 2011 The USA planned to phase out all expendable launch vehicles (ELV) after the Space Shuttle entered service. However, the Challenger accident of 1986 changed all that, and the Delta program was restarted. Termed Delta II, these rockets have made nearly 150 successful launches since 1989, making it the most reliable system in service. Originally built by McDonnell Douglas, production for both US government and commercial entities is now the responsibility of United Launch Alliance (ULA).As an ELV, each rocket can only be launched once. A Delta II rocket consists of Stage I tanks, solid rocket boosters, interstage, Stage II tanks, optional Stage III rocket motor, and finally the payload fairing (nose cone). Among the Delta II?s missions are the launching of GPS Block II satellites, Iridium satellites, and several Mars missions for NASA. The latter includes the Mars Phoenix lander in 2007. The future of the Delta II space rocket is uncertain beyond 2011 once the Medium Launch Vehicle 3 contract with the US Air Force expires, but despite this it has proved a hugely successful design to date. Features: Highly detailed model True to 1/400 High quality diecast construction

Roving MARS

Roving MARS

$36.95

“Visually Stunning” – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post Mars is Earth’s closest planetary neighbor, and for decades scientists have been curious about the so-called “Red Planet,” wondering if it’s possible that life exists there, how its soil and terrain differs from our own, and if water can be found. While sending a manned space mission to Mars has been considered beyond the reach of America’s space program, in 2001 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration approved a mission to send two “rovers” to Mars — wheeled robots that would send images and data back to Earth. A two-year crash program resulted in two robotic rovers (dubbed “Spirit” and “Opportunity”) being sent to Mars, which have given scientists and researchers on Earth a brand new vision of what the planet is really like. Roving Mars is a documentary which offers a detailed look at the people behind the Mars rover program, how the machines were built and what they can do, and what has been learned since they reached their target. Roving Mars was shot and originally exhibited in the high-definition IMAX film format. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide Features: Actors: Paul Newman, Stephen Squyres, Rob Manning (IV), Charles Elachi, Wayne Lee (II) Directors: George Butler (II) Format: AC-3, Closed-captioned, Color, Dolby, Dubbed, DVD-Video, Full Screen, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC Language: English Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1 Studio: Buena Vista Home Entertainment DVD Release Date: July 31, 2007 Run Time: 40 minutes Bonus Features: Bonus Movie: Mars and Beyond – Walt Disney’s 1957 Investigation into the mysteries of the universe and space travel. 50 minutes. “Mars: Past, Present & Future”- Personal reflections on Mars from the filmmakers, JPL Rover team members and students from the “Imagine Mars” program
