Realizing Tomorrow: The Path to Private Spaceflight – AUTOGRAPHED by Author $45 Realizing Tomorrow: The Path to Private Spaceflight – Author Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom – AUTOGRAPHED by Author “Tighten your seat belt for a wonderful ride of a read that tells the incredible tale of the dedicated people who helped push the throttle forward to make private space travel reality.” ?Leonard David, Coalition for Space ExplorationNearly forty years passed between the Apollo moon landings, the grandest accomplishment of a government-run space program, and the Ansari X PRIZE-winning flights of SpaceShipOne, the greatest achievement of a private space program. Now, as we hover on the threshold of commercial spaceflight, authors Chris Dubbs and Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom look back at how we got to this point.Their book traces the lives of the individuals who shared the dream that private individuals and private enterprise belong in space. Constellation: Moon, Mars, and Beyond $9.95 Project Constellation is NASA’s initiative to develop a replacement for the aging Space Shuttle. It’s main goal is to provide spacecraft for returning to the Moon by the year 2020. This Pocket Space Guide, #9 in the series, gives the background information on how the program was formed and what it is destined to accomplish.Details are given for all of the elements of the Project Constellation, from the Lunar Precursor Robotic Program to the Orion spacecraft, Ares launch vehicles, and the Lunar Surface Access Module. Project Constellation is realizing President Bush’s “Vision” for space and this book chronicles the progress and outlines the plans for tomorrow.Author Bio:Tim McElyea is a native of Huntsville Alabama with a record of achievement in fine art prints, drawings, sculpture and computer animations. In 1995 he founded Media Fusion, Inc., a studio providing state-of-the-art communications media, particularly full-color graphics and computer animations. Tim and Media Fusion have a rich relationship with NASA, providing high profile imagery and media which NASA uses to communicate the future of space transportation. Features and Reviews: Tim McElyea has done a great job at revealing the opening shots of Project Constellation and the Orion program. This book is a must for people that are just coming aboard the project and for those that want to know where the governments money is going on the Space Shuttle’s replacement. It highly utilizes computer illustrations to show the next step in America’s long road to the Moon and Mars. Let there be no mistake here- this is THE first book on the subject, and it will be changed and modified over the next few years as this program shapes up. Writer McElyea even goes over the possible changes to the program like the use of Ares IV booster instead. His illustrations show the breakdowns of the launchers and spacecraft. He has done a wonderful job at showing how the Orion Spacecraft, lunar lander, Ares I and V rockets will work. Not too technical, not too simplistic. I heartily recommend this book for all ages. It will be the book in the back pocket for those who are in school now but will someday be riding these mighty vehicles to the Moon and Mars. – J. Busby Paperback: 96 pages Publisher: Collector’s Guide Publishing Inc (February 15, 2007) Language: English Book Dimensions: 6.7 x 4.1 x 0.4 inches |

Moonrush $24.95 Moon Rush:Improving life On Earth with the Moon’s Resources Moonrush: Improving Life On Earth With The Moon’s Resources is another in the Apogee Books Space Series. If by some magic process humanity was able to go to the stars tomorrow and find habitable worlds we would probably want to design a society based upon modern technology. We can’t do this but we can look at our Earthbound society and think about how to redesign it so that it will work better. It is like a giant game of the SIMS but in the real world. This book examines how the exploration of space, specifically a commercial base on the Moon and Mars would transform our economies on the Earth as surely as the discovery of the New World transformed the old world of Europe. From Platinum Group Metals for fuel cells, manufacturing high tech metals and robots to the building of a fusion reactor, the Moon holds great promise for a high tech manufacturing future. This book takes a look and imagines how a world with such resources could be designed for our future. NASA Exploration Patch $5.5 click images for larger view The Vision for Space Exploration is the United States space policy announced on January 14, 2004 by U.S. President George W. Bush. It is seen as a response to the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the state of human spaceflight at NASA, and a way to regain public enthusiasm for space exploration. The Vision calls for the space program to:Complete the International Space Station by 2010 Retire the Space Shuttle by 2010 Develop the Orion spacecraft (formerly known as the Crew Exploration Vehicle) by 2008, and conduct its first human spaceflight mission by 2014 Develop Shuttle Derived Launch Vehicles Explore the Moon with robotic spacecraft missions by 2008 and crewed missions by 2020 Explore Mars and other destinations with robotic and crewed missions When the Vision was announced in January 2004, the U.S. Congress and the scientific community gave it a mix of positive and negative reviews. For example, Rep. Dave Weldon (R-Fla.) said, “I think this is the best thing that has happened to the space program in decades,” while physicist and outspoken manned spaceflight opponent Robert L. Park said that robotic spacecraft “are doing so well it’s going to be hard to justify sending a human.”[1]Others, such as the Mars Society have argued that it makes more sense to avoid going back to the Moon and instead focus on going to Mars first.[2]In a position paper issued by the National Space Society (NSS), a return to the Moon should be considered a high space program priority, in order to begin development of the knowledge and identification of the industries unique to the Moon. The NSS believes that the Moon may be a repository of the history and possible future of our planet, and that the six Apollo landings only scratched the surface of that treasure. Features: The Exploration patch depicts NASA’s vision for space exploration, with an arc that extends over the Earth, and then proceeds to extend to the Moon, Mars and beyond. 4″ embroidered patch |
