You need at least a bachelors degree (and higher degrees help) in a science, math, or engineering field, and a few years of work experience (teaching counts). You also need to be in great physical shape and within the height and weight requirements (you can’t be too tall – they reuse the same space suits and they only fit certain heights). Then you’d apply for astronaut training school, which NASA holds every 2 years (even years). Very few people get into it, and getting in doesn’t guarantee you’ll ever go into space. Also, since NASA is discontinuing the shuttle program, they might not need any astronauts in the near future. So find a major in those fields you like and plan to spend your life doing that unless you get really lucky. Or just make a ton of money so you can pay Virigin Galactic for a ride into space ($200,000 at the moment).
