Therefore, rigorous testing is the only way in which a software product can be reasonable assessed for its intended target market, be it online gamers, warehouse inventory control or aircraft auto pilot function.
Even the best coders can make an error, after all they are only human and common sources of coding errors are non-functional requirements including but not limited to scalability, maintainability, usability, overall performance requirement and of course security. By testing any issue with code can be traced; for instance, a defect in code can go completely unnoticed without adequate testing until a situation arises in the function which causes a data error. This can occur say, when an application is migrated to a new operating platform or different hardware architecture, or indeed is subject to outside interference from another application residing in the system.
There are cost scales which can be applied to error fixing prior to launch and/or after launch, and these tables are very detailed, although there is insufficient space to go into them in any detail in this tome. However, one example of a costing is that if an error, issue or problem in the requirements is found only after an application or product is released, it would cost something in the region of ten to one hundred times the cost to fix it pre release.
