Space Science Fiction Channel
Hello Will artificial gravity be invented for our space program and how would it function ? Tk?

The example I can give would be the science fiction programs I observe on TV such as StaRTrek, Star Wars and the most recent syfy channel Stargate and others. Would it avoid space explorers from floating aroud the capsule or ship like you see in our space program. What is your solution too this question and how would artificial gravity work? Thank You NOMOREFEE

The real answer for this question is black magic. You know, the shit that makes your computer work.
You —-> Black Magic —-> Screen

It works something like that.
First of all you have to question what gravity really is. We all think that it is some kind of mystical force that attracts you to earth. Oh you do? well there you go, black magic.
Anyway there are a few different ways we could do this. First of all you need to develop it in secret so that the public sector can’t duplicate it and you will have a monopoly on the product. This = money.
You could always go with the old spinny thing where you spin the whole ship at the correct velocity so that it produces exactly one G of outwards force. (sometimes known as centrifugal force, some say centripedal force but i maintain it is just black magic so it doesn’t matter) This is a boring way of making gravity because then you would only be able to walk around the outside of the ship like in 2001 a Space Odyssey. (although this was awesome at the time)
I hypothesize that we are all being fooled by the physics of our fore bearers and that relativity and the speed of light limit is all garbage. I further hypothesize that gravity is not such a difficult thing to understand so long as you have a voodoo chief with at least a PhD in ‘Awesome Shit’.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could have space ships that are all trippy and psychedelic so that you never quite know which way gravity is going to go when you step somewhere (like some kind of platform game or The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy [now why didn't they make a sequel to that movie? It was awesome and so were the books]). Any who, gravity is just something that in like 100 years they will look back on us and go “man i can’t believe those noobs didn’t understand gravity”.
I don’t really know where i’m going with this just that there has to be some way to manipulate the flow of gravity. After all it is really just a dimple in the spacial fields surrounding large bodies. Surely it has something to do with the relative attractions between electrons and molecules and whatnot. I blame religion.

Sex In Space by Laura S. Woodmansee, author of Women Astronauts and Women of SpaceAs hoteliers design zero-gravity hotel suites for out-of-this-world unions and with the first honeymoon in space already scheduled, this provocative account reveals the truth about romantic rendezvous in Earth’s orbit and beyond as well as the advantages and difficulties of having sex in space. Questions the space agencies are too embarrassed to discuss ? such as Has anyone “done it” in space? What will happen to the first baby conceived in space? and Have astronauts and cosmonauts practiced “docking maneuvers” while in orbit? ? are thoughtfully answered, while science-fiction myths about interstellar intercourse are dispelled. From chemistry to psychology, this exploration runs the reproductive and sexual gamut, from lust and sexual mechanics to conception, pregnancy, and birth in low-gravity situations. The 24 episodes cover everything from light sabers to teleportation to alien invasions. The sci-fi science videos provide a fascinating look at mind-blowing technology and the dreamers and thinkers behind it. Season 1 Ep. 1) How To Build A Light Saber: Dr. Michio Kaku uses cutting edge science and existing technology to show how we could build the most popular movie weapon ever. He examines the awesome power of the laser and shows how to harness the power of lightning. A visit to Harvard University’s Dr. Ron Walsworth shows that stopping light isn’t quite the hurdle you might think. At MIT Professor Brian Wardle explains how nanotechnology might one day be used to generate enough energy to power up a lightsaber. Ep. 2) How To Blow Up a Planet: Could a real life death star ever actually be built? Dr. Michio Kaku thinks so. Fellow astrophysics professor Stephen Thorsett reveals that out in deep space a devastating gamma ray burster is pointing right at Planet Earth. Kaku believes that an advanced civilization might be able to manipulate these bursters and beam destruction onto whatever planet they liked. He visits the world’s biggest laser at the National Ignition Facility in Livermore California and sees how fusion power might one day provide enough energy to power a laser that could destroy a planet, just like the death star in Star Wars. Ep. 3) How to Build A Force Field: Every star ship needs armor and a force field is the ultimate protection against asteroids, space debris and enemy attack. Dr. Michio Kaku reveals how to build a real life deflector shield using components from cutting-edge experiments and theoretical physics. Beyond Earth The Future of Humans in SpaceEdited by Bob Krone, Ph.D.Beyond Earth: The Future of Humans in Space provides a foundation for space planners and anyone interested in humankind’s next great adventure – the human migration to space. World-class scholars, scientists, engineers, managers, astronauts, artists, authors, and university professors capture the questions that plague our unique circumstance: Why does space matter to us? What can we use it for? How can we get there efficiently? What will ordinary life be like in space? What will our homes be like on the Moon? On Mars? In orbit? Will we play? Will we love? Will we survive? The primary reasons for humans to go permanently to space are for the betterment of humankind and the avoidance of threats to humans on earth. Evidence to support those conclusions is provided herein. Research findings over the past decade show huge benefits to humans and to earth of exploiting the resources and capabilities uniquely found in space. Some predictions and projections will produce paradigm shifts unimagined in 1957 when Russians and Americans began departing earth. Space Sciences, technology and experience makes the next major breakout from Earth to space not only feasible but commercially profitable. This book is science, not science fiction. In the year 2006 we know that humans will live and work in space. Humans have experienced space for forty-five years. The majority of the forty professionals who authored this book have spent their working lives in the global space community. They have produced a systems approach to the Why and the How the next great space adventure will occur and the challenges to overcome. Managers are already planning for translation of this English version into twelve major languages of the world. Project Mars: A Technical Tale

Project Mars: A Technical Tale

$12.95

Project Mars: A Technical Tale Mankind’s love affair with the planet Mars is certainly not new. It has long been recognized that Mars is the only other planet in our solar system that could possibly support life.Until the 1970s, the existence of life on Mars remained an open question. We know today that there are no civilizations on Mars, but in 1949, when this story was written, the possibility had not yet been ruled out. In this story by Wernher von Braun, Mars has an underground civilization which is more or less on par with our own. And it is a peaceful civilization, neither bent on conquest nor paranoid about being attacked. In this story of man’s first human mission to Mars, ten space ships make the journey. Upwards of 1,000 flights into Earth’s orbit are required to build, supply and fuel these ten ships, and it is an international, cooperative project. In short, the undertaking is on a scale that would never happen in the real world. We tend to stick our toes in the water first, before diving in. But neither of these issues takes anything away from the story. In fact, they add to its larger-than-life-adventure quality. All other aspects of the story are very realistic. The characters think and feel like real people; the science and rocket technology are accurate and are consistent with what is being used today; the mission timeline exactly matches reality; and so on. The mission plan does not include staying to colonize or setting up a Martian base, which, again, is realistic for a first mission. von Braun went to great lengths preparing the plot for this story. The calculations and technical drawings that he developed for a Mars mission, and on which he then based this story, are included in the 65-page appendix of this book. The writing style of Project MARS is typical of an adventure story written in the 1940s. The translation from German to English and the publisher’s editing have both retained the original styling, faithfully reproducing what von Braun created. What we have here is a genuine adventure story, created without the aid of special effects or sophisticated electronics. In contrast with much of what is written today, this story is highlighted by love and adventure, instead of sex and violence. This is quite simply a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Where Project MARS differs from other fiction of the mid-20th century is in its multiple main characters. Typical science fiction of that era involved one main character (perhaps with a side-kick) who beats the odds, saves the world, and gets the girl, pretty much all by himself. In von Braun’s story there are many characters who make essential contributions, and the story will center for a time on each of them. This is consistent with how the real world works many people working together to accomplish what must be done; each affecting and being affected by the others. It’s no accident that contemporary fiction predominantly relies on this multiple

Space and Beyond: The Frontier Theme in Science Fiction

Space and Beyond: The Frontier Theme in Science Fiction

$192.86

Although the exploration of space has long preoccupied authors and filmmakers, the development of an actual space program, discoveries about the true nature of space, and critical reconsiderations of Americas frontier experiences have challenged and complicated conventional portrayals of humans in space. This volume reexamines the themes of space and the frontier in science fiction in light of recent scientific and literary developments. From this new perspective, we discern previously unnoticed commentaries from older authors, while newer writers either remain within a reassuring but obsolete tradition, venture into unexplored new realities, or abandon space to focus on other frontiers. The intriguing contributions to this volume include a previously unpublished interview with Arthur C. Clarke, the worlds greatest living author of science fiction; examinations of space opera by veteran author Jack Williamson and scholar David Pringle; surveys of space in science fiction film, and writer and producer Michael Cassutts account of his efforts to launch a film based on a Clifford D. Simak novel; and speculations about future developments from noted writers Gregory Benford, Jack Dann, James Gunn, and Howard V. Hendrix.
